Lush purchases

soak & float shampoo bar
american cream double strength conditioner
bubblegum sugar lip scrub

I noticed the Lush store when we first got here but always resisted going in as I knew I would spend too much. But after a while I decided (persuaded myself) I actually needed these products, so took a little trip to Lush while Glyn went to a bookstore. I've used these products a fair bit now and thought I would just quickly give my opinions on them. So here they are:

Soak & Float Shampoo Bar ($13.50) - I've actually used this before, but it's been a while as I couldn't really afford it. I tend to get really dry skin, in particular around my nose, hands and unfortunately, scalp. This is the only thing I've used that I would say actually works on my scalp. It lathers really well and lasts quite well too. The only thing people seem not to like about it is the smell, to be fair it does STINK, like a campfire, but after you've been by it all night and then your clothes still reek of it a few days later if left unwashed. I don't actually mind the smell too much, although I've found it can linger on your hair which is a bit annoying.

American Cream Double Strength Conditioner ($13.95)  - I bought this in the smallest size as I didn't want to spend too much money on a conditioner when I already have a deep treatment conditioner and moroccan argan oil at home. The first time I used this I wasn't overly impressed, not sure what happened, because every time since then it's been great! My hair can be very dry towards the ends (yes, I am a very dry person!) but this sorts it out, it also covers the smell of the Soak & Float which I didn't think was possible. It smells really lovely, very vanilla-y, the kind of smell you don't mind lingering!

Bubblegum Flavour Sugar Lip Scrub ($9.95) - I decided to treat myself to this as I'd previously been devising my own at home, which is just not as nice as this one. It smells like actual bubblegum, I got it out on the tram after buying it and somebody said 'Who's got Hubba Bubba?!'. It's a really lovely treat to exfoliate your lips, I like to follow it up with Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Balm (LOVE that stuff!).

I hope you enjoyed this post, I fancied posting something like this now, especially as I haven't posted in so long! :)

What are you favourite Lush products?

Our closest thing to a Christmas cake...

I made these the other day. To be honest I'm surprised they even turned out as edible cakes seeing as we don't have any scales and so I just guessed for the amounts of the ingredients! Glyn demolished the mini ones in a very short amount of time and that left me to eat most of the Oreo ones, not that I'm complaining. I'd tried to copy a seriously amazing Cupcake shop in Melbourne Central but unfortunately mine tasted nowhere near as good as theirs (they were still pretty tasty though!).

Feels so weird that it's Christmas Day in 4 days. We'll be spending it mostly on the beach!

Things I miss about the UK

So I thought I would just pop a little post up about things I'm missing from the UK! Mostly friends and family, especially with Christmas coming up, it feels really weird to not be around everyone I know at this time of year. Plus it's summer! There's many things wrong with that, mainly that it's so nice to get wrapped up and head into town late night shopping, or to see the Christmas lights, or generally just get wrapped up to go anywhere in December. The thickest item of clothing I'm wearing at the moment is leggings, and that's just to set up the store because it's all dusty!

As for the more superficial things in life, I really miss H&M and Primark. Sounds stupid, I know, but when you can't find a plain and simple t-shirt for less than $25 over here, you do miss the wonders of Primarni. As for make-up, my foundation in England cost me £10 and Iused to hate the time when I had to 'blow' £10 just for a foundation. I promise I will never complain about that again seeing as the same type over here is just over $30.

This post must sound like I'm having a terrible time, I'm really not though! I think I do complain a lot about the cost of things, which will hopefully change once I get my first paycheck! Just got to be careful not to blow it all in one go...

Do any of you miss things from your home town/city/country if you've moved away?!

Glossybox

So I haven't done a post in a while, oops. Obviously not doing very well at this am I?!

After seeing so many posts on monthly beauty boxes, I've started to really warm to the idea, and I wish I'd subscribed to one in the UK before I left. However, after further investigation, Glossybox actually have an Australian version packed with Australian goodies by the looks of it. I think I really want to sign up but I'm just wary of the previous things that have been in there, some of them look great, but there's a lot of stuff I genuinely wouldn't be bothered about. Does anyone have any advice/points to make about Glossybox or other beauty boxes? Are they worth it?

On another note, I finally have my start date for my new job at GAP Melbourne Central! Very excited :)

Hope everyones well, and perhaps I'll start having more interesting posts from now on!

Spanish Festival

The Spanish Festival is an annual event that goes on in Fitzroy, Melbourne over a weekend. There's loads of great food and stalls selling jewellery, hats, bags, sunglasses etc. and at one end a stage where they had dancing and various things on throughout the day. As we walked past there was a big group salsa lesson going on! Here are a few photos I took there:

Check out those paella bowls!!! Unfortunately it all seemed to be seafood or meat in the paella so I couldn't have any :( I did however have a pretty good beans and cheese quesadilla from a Mexican stall.

Did anyone from Melbourne go to the Spanish Festival this weekend? Hope everyone had a good weekend!

What I wore

#001
So until I can get some decent outfit shots done, this will have to do for now. This is an outfit I wore the other day, it's great for spring/summer and very comfortable. Probably the most obvious type of outfit I tend to go for - simple and comfortable! I'm loving the navy blue nail polish at the moment, currently sporting a shade by Ulta3 (cheap polishes!). Hope this type of post is something you'd want to see more of, because it's something I definitely want to do a lot more!

Note: These are not the actual items I own, they are very similar though. Image put together using Polyvore.

Black Swan

I took this picture when Glyn and I went for a walk around the Royal Botanic Gardens at the weekend.
I'd never seen a black swan until the other day. I thought they were absolutely beautiful, although a little scary! They had 2 cygnets with them too, so cute.

Also had a lovely surprise when I noticed this little guy pop his head up;

closely followed by 6 or 7 others!

I apologize for my lack of posting on here, I'm terrible I always promise myself I'll be good and then end up forgetting or not having anything I want to post about. Plus if I want to do outfit posts I have to do them myself in the flat, which trust me isn't a great photo opportunity!

Urban Decay

So I found out the other day you can't actually buy Urban Decay products in Australia. Seriously, what is that all about?! Also struggling to find somewhere online that isn't ridiculously over priced for the products and delivery. What a pain! If anyone knows anywhere let me know! :)

Jeffrey Campbell Litas

Saw these beauties in a shoe shop on Chapel Street the other week. AMAZING! The only question is, would I ever actually be able to walk in them?!

I need to have a go at this!

I fancy having a banner at the top of my blog, what do you guys think? Perhaps this photo or a similar one?

Melbourne Cup 2011

Hey guys!

So yesterday was the Melbourne Cup, it's a public holiday which was great, although everyone was pretty rough from the Halloween party on Monday! I didn't actually go to the races because it's so expensive (plus I'd have had to buy a new dress, shoes, hat - it's THAT much of a big deal!) but Glyn and I did place a few bets in the bookies and watched the race on the TV. And would you believe it, we won! Glyn had the winner and I had the winner and 2nd place with an each way bet on both of them and I won $92! Couldn't believe it! So when we went to collect our winnings and saw the last race of the day was about to start I couldn't resist putting a cheeky amount on that too - and I won again! Literally this never happens to me! I won small amounts at our leaving do but in total yesterday I won $134!! Very happy. We celebrated by having a rare meal out as normally we can't afford it haha!

I wore my new Love dress teamed with tights and boots as it was a bit chilly yesterday. Didn't get any photos but I'm sure I'll wear it again soon!

I think today I might treat myself with the rest of my winnings, perhaps venture into the city in search of the Naked palette I posted about the other day.

Did anyone else win at the races yesterday?

The Beach

This is where we live

A few more snaps of where we live to show you all!

Luna Park

I took these at Luna Park yesterday (Sunday). It's a really old kinda creepy theme park, and as the weather wasn't really that great I thought it might make some nice photo opportunities. Entry to the park itself is free, then you pay for tickets to go on each of the rides. I didn't actually go on any of the rides, going to save that for a more summery day I think!

Cheeky purchases

Hello!

So we finally have our internet sorted in the flat woohoo! No more skanky internet cafe! I'll hopefully be able to update this blog a lot more now, it's something I really want to do so I'm going to try my best to be a good blogger and update it frequently!

Still don't think I'm used to the prices of clothes over here, I keep trying to find somewhere similar in price and style to trusty H&M (my friends at home know how much I love it!) but no luck whatsoever. So when I discovered Love online only last week (I know, I can't believe it took me this long to have a look either!) I couldn't help but spend a little amount.

These two beauties are currently on their way to me! The prices are very reasonable, especially as they were running a £10 credit promotion and I had the wrap dress in my basket for a couple of days so they sent me a 20% off code to use on it! Amazing! AND to top it off, free delivery! How could I say no? I'm already eyeing up a few more items on the site!

Little bit worried that when they arrive Glyn won't be very impressed with me as neither of us have jobs yet, but we still have enough funds for the important things like food and rent, so I figured it would be ok. Oops!

Has anyone bought things from Love before? Any Australians who may happen to read this - can you recommend me some good, well-priced places to shop?

Quick Update

Hey guys!

Sorry I haven't posted in the last few days, but thought I would quickly write what's going on to keep you informed!

Having just moved into a little studio in Melbourne, we haven't got any internet yet at home, and are therefore having to use little internet cafes at the moment, mainly to look for jobs and keep in contact with family and friends back home. So apologies for this, we've sorted out internet but it won't be up and running for another 2 weeks or so! (Can't believe it takes that long but there you go!)

Hope everyone's good, and in a couple of weeks time I should hopefully have a lot of exciting things to blog about! :)

Outfit of the day... (yesterday)

T-shirt - H&M
Jeggings - H&M
Necklace - H&M
Rings - H&M
Boots - Topshop

So this is what I wore yesterday to go for a wander and bit of shopping in the city, nothing special, just pure comfort! As we're still in the hostel we're having to pretty much live out of bags which I hate, and therefore end up just opting for oversized tee's and leggings or jeans most days at the moment! Not all that exciting I know, but just thought I would at least get started with the outfit posts.
We've put in another application for a flat today, fingers crossed we get somewhere soon, we are both VERY fed up with this tiny hostel room!

Monument

Hey guys!
The clocks went forward an hour here on Sunday, summer is coming! This meant obviously that it stayed lighter a bit longer, so yesterday evening Glyn and I decided to go and investigate what this strange building was as we kept seeing it from the tram but had no idea what it actually was.
Turns out it's a war memorial site, and the building in the top photograph is a shrine. It shut at 5pm so we didn't actually go in, but had a nice little walk around the park around it. Glyn took some outfit photos for me which I'll put up in a bit :)

Has the heatwave in the UK ended yet? Doesn't seem fair that as soon as we leave England it gets the best weather of the year haha!

Counter Revolution

Hello!
So yesterday I persuaded Glyn into coming to an all day gig with me in the city. It worked out quite well I thought as we managed to get cheaper tickets because we bought them off people last minute, so instead of paying $200 we paid $130 for 2 tickets :) (around £80 for 2 tickets!)

It was a really long day and we had a break in the middle for an hour where we went to the pub because Glyn was really NOT impressed. I loved it though! Got to see D.R.U.G.S for the first time who were awesome, plus got to see favourites like Yellowcard, Funeral For a Friend, All Time Low etc. A nice surprise was HelloGoodbye - who knew they had a totally different sound now?! Even Glyn sort of approved!

I was also quite surprised by Panic! At The Disco, they headlined and we only watched a few songs of their set, but they sounded amazing! I really wasn't sure what to expect, I used to love them but had never seen them live before and for some reason I just imagined they would sound awful live. They definitely proved me wrong!

Sorry there's no photos, I wasn't sure on the venues policy for cameras and as mines an SLR I didn't want to risk it being confiscated if I tried to take it in. Shame really cos the lighting was so good I could have got some nice shots!

If anyone reads this who went, who was your favourite? :)
Hope everyone has a good weekend!

St. Kilda & Melbourne Aquarium

On Sunday Glyn and I jumped on the tram over to St. Kilda to have a look around, as we thought this was one of the places we'd most want to live for this year. It is such a nice place, really pretty and loads of cool little boutique style shops and market stalls on a Sunday. Plus it's right by the beach! And has an amazing view of the city!

Glyn's camera has a panoramic setting!

Luna Park (Unfortunately with scaffold!)

We then came back into the city and like typical tourists headed for the aquarium!

Hope you're enjoying these posts, I'd like to start doing some more fashion related posts (outfit posts etc.) but that will probably all come more when we're settled! :)
